Launching our first training session of 2024

Launching our first training session of 2024

What a great start to the year we’ve had by conducting the first training session of the year on Sunday 21 Jan 2024. Our Training & Education Manager, Babucarr E. Camara facilitated a training which focused on “Addressing Plastic Pollution and Recycling with Precious Plastic Gambia” with 22 participants from diverse institutions, groups and individuals who are passionate about the environment.

The informative training session covered an overview of plastic pollution, our mission, plastic polymers, collections, production and our impact and future goals. It was an insightful session, which sparked a lot of enthusiasm from all participants, making it a collaborative learning environment. To conclude the training, a few recommendations were made to ensure all parties work together for a cleaner and sustainable Gambia, such as:

  1. Further training with more volunteers to educate on plastic polymer identification.
  2. Pilot plastic waste management inter-school competition
  3. Pilot Precious Plastic Gambia clubs in schools
  4. Formulate committees on effective waste management in fish landing sites across the country
  5. Establish collection points on beaches, especially at fish landing sites

We are confident that the knowledge and skills acquired during the training will empower the participants to further promote recycling and contribute to the reduction of plastic waste in The Gambia. Together, we can create a cleaner and more sustainable future for all and we look forward to many more trainings to build on this in the near future. Thank you to everyone that participated!
